About the Course
Tuition programs can vary depending on your level and what you’d like to work on. If you’re starting out or coming over to traditional music from another genre there can be some grounding on the different tune types, session playing, regional and individual styles and history. Laura likes to work with all the main tune types and teach and/or give samples of each. She usually teaches by ear, with notation available as needed.
At an intermediate to advanced level Laura likes to take a variety of tunes of different types in varying keys and look at different techniques and aspects of playing ie:
- General rhythm and sound
- Style
- Bowing
- Variation
- Ornamentation
- Musicality
- Phrasing
- Dynamic
There can also be a mixture of everything or a focus on something very specific, depending on your preference. Laura can work on technique in existing repertoire as well as in new tunes taught during the course. She is open to learning new material herself where it suits, as requested.
Tuition program dates are arranged by mutual availability – if you’re interested in booking in for a course just write or call with some information on your background, what you’d like to work on and a rough suggestion on when this could take place.
